I never thought I’d be the kind of person who would actually use the word mantra. My perception of mantras before usually included someone in white, sitting on a cloud with closed eyes and humming an odd sound. Or someone staring intently into the mirror screaming positive things while throwing their fist into the air.

This coming from someone who actually has a tattoo of an ohm. What did I think was going to happen?

So, what is a mantra?

A word or sound repeated to aid in concentration or focus in meditation.

When you boil it down to basics, it’s about the words and not what you’re doing it when you say them. You can use mantras in quick moments of solitude or throughout the day – whatever works for you. But it’s what you say to yourself that counts the most.

Here are 5 mantras to use when you need to give yourself a little mental love.

My favourite is “I make time to nourish my mind, body and spirit.”
